I'm so sad

I can't listen to it anymore. When I first came to the Philippines in 2010, I loved it. I really did. It even helped with my depression, which was always raging back in Europe. So it's fair to say I owe a lot to this country and its people.

But after living here for some years, going back and forth, I just can't do it anymore.
There's zero improvement in this country. Zero. Why? Whyyyyyyy does nothing ever really get better? For a long time I truly believed things would improve. That was naive.
All I hear is 'Sorry sir, out of stock.' 'Sorry sir, I don't know.' Those two sentences are 80% of what's wrong with this country on a daily basis. The Philippines will never develop properly if it can't do the most basic things.
It's sad, because there's love and there's hate. My kids were born here. It's just so sad watching this country fail to find its way, while Thailand and other countries are clearly way ahead.
If foreigners were allowed into politics, I'd do it. The politics here are among the worst in the world. Because of my work, I spent a long time in Africa and many other countries in Asia. The Philippines is among the worst. There isn't a single good person in the top ten of political power. Why aren't people sick of this?
Well, as long as Red Horse is always in stock, it's fine. But important life-saving medicine isn't. It's ridiculous

This is what happens when politicians pay people to vote for them

Why Filipinos leave

Now you know why people born in the Philippines leave.

Feeling it too

I know how you feel. I've been here 7 years, and I think things may be worse now than when I first arrived. I mostly just do my own thing, but some days there's no avoiding it.

September carols

I thought you were about to go on a rant about Christmas music blaring in September.

Anything improved?

Had the same conversation last week. The only improvement we could think of in the last 25 years was GCash. Everything else is going backwards.

Why expats stay

A lot of us are here because, as a low-income country, it lets us afford things we never could in a higher-income economy. My pension plus Social Security puts me squarely in the middle class in the US. Having to send substantial support to an ex from a miserable marriage knocks that down to lower middle class, which doesn't appeal to many women back home. But here in the Philippines, even my reduced income borders on rich. I can afford to do things for my partner and her family that have really improved their lives now and going forward. They're good people, and my partner is very happy to have me in her life and shows it every day. So while it's unfortunate the country isn't developing as quickly as it could, a lot of the expats here would be worse off if it were.

Foreigners in politics?

Foreigners in politics? What country in the world lets non-citizens into politics?
