Don't forget MILF means something different in the Philippines.
> Rural areas of Leyte 🔴 Highest concern within Leyte The remote outskirts of Carigara, especially the interior toward the Tunga boundary The uplands and mountains of Jaro, especially Barangay Pange The remote parts of Albuera, including the Tinag-an/Sitio Buak area 🟠 Secondary concern Other isolated mountain and upland communities where the Army is still running counterinsurgency operations or has reported NPA remnants Parts of Baybay City, one of the five LGUs in Leyte that still don't have SIPSC status. That said, I haven't found a similarly recent deadly NPA encounter there that would justify putting the whole city in the same category. 🟢 No evidence to justify a blanket US danger zone Tacloban City Ormoc City Most of Leyte's major coastal population centers The municipalities in the province that have already been declared SIPSC In fact, the Army declared 11 more Leyte towns SIPSC in May 2026, describing it as the dismantling of insurgent influence in central Leyte.
Why is Leyte on the list? I live here. Literally nothing happens here. Even the Army guys I talk to (I'm former US Army, so I hang out with them a lot) are totally confused, and these guys know nothing about OPSEC. They talk freely.
Ehh. Use your own brain. I've been all over Mindanao and all over Leyte and never once felt in danger. Does danger exist? Sure. Should you not go? Use your own brain instead of relying on some broad government warning. Just my two cents. You do you.
