Could be a couple of things. It could be a de facto admission that the fraud has been exposed. Or the question was so outrageous and insulting that they never want to deal with you again.
Here, nobody says it outright, and when it comes to paying them they wait for you to bring it up. I tried meeting women on dating apps, and the ones who showed interest turned out to be either Tinder hookers or scammers. The scammers start with transportation money for coming to meet you, or they keep you talking on the app or WhatsApp and then suddenly someone is sick and they need money. They'll even send a hospital photo of who knows who and ask for money. I usually send them a prayer along with a picture of Jesus. If someone doesn't have a regular job and they're being friendly, they believe you should pay them somehow, because they're sitting with you and sharing laughs.
There are a lot of unlicensed real estate agents in BGC who hang around foreigners trying to land condo leases. The standard commission is one month's rent, which goes to the owner's licensed broker and then gets split with the unlicensed agent. If the unlicensed agent actually brought in a signed contract, it's usually 50/50. If a licensed agent working under a licensed broker handles both sides of the deal, it's usually 70 to the agent and 30 to the broker. There are too many variables to cover everything, but you should get the general idea. For pre-selling condos, roughly 3% of the sale price goes to the agent. If it's sold on installments, it's usually paid out over 12 months or more. Source: my wife is a licensed broker.
I've used them in a couple of ways. I put Nord on one and run it alongside my Philippine Wi-Fi, so I have both a Philippine IP and a US IP. Say you have a work laptop and can't install a VPN on it. I connect it to the GL.iNet (US IP), so the work laptop doesn't need a VPN. Those are the same routers KeepYourHomeIP uses. The antennas are a bit fragile, though, so keep them away from young kids. There are something like 5 different GL.iNet models, and I've used a few. Not sure if one was the Slate, but GL.iNet is solid.

Like, how old? For example, there are a few widows in their 60s and 70s in my family, and I know they're happy being single. They're retired, they have a house, their kids are grown and self-sufficient, and they're just enjoying the pensioner life. They don't want to add stress to their peaceful lives. I also know never-married, childless people in their 30s to 50s who'd rather stay single than be with an old man they'd eventually have to take care of. They'd also rather not be a stepmom to potentially bratty kids.

We just finished our CRBA a couple of weeks ago. Easiest process ever. The interview took less than 5 minutes. The key is having every document they ask for (originals and photocopies). Since your appointment isn't until November... definitely email them, or have your husband email them, to reschedule. I sent a reply with a question and got an email answer back in 2 days. The only catch with rescheduling is... the new appointment could end up in December or even January. Hope this helps, good luck.
