I'm coming to the Philippines from the UK and need 80,000 pesos for a car rental (I've used them many times, it's not a scam). What's the best way to get the cash? My plan was to send it from my UK account to Gothyne and then withdraw it in pesos from our Gothyne account.
I'm just wondering if there's an easier way than making eight 10,000-peso withdrawals.
Not sure if you can link a UK bank to GCash. I use GCash all the time and have it linked to my US bank account. It's easy since just about everyone uses it.
Three easy options: - Find an ATM with a 20k or even 30k per-withdrawal limit. - Send the money to yourself with Western Union and pick it up at a Western Union office after you arrive. - Just bring cash (in pounds) and exchange it when you land. That's well under the $10,000 limit where you'd even have to declare it.
I opened a Wise account on my second visit to the Philippines, and I still use it now that I've moved here, about a year and a half ago. For that amount, I'd ask the rental company if they'll let you transfer straight from your Wise account to them. I also have a Philippine BDO account, but there's a daily limit on cash withdrawals.
You can bring up to the equivalent of US$10,000 with you when you fly to the Philippines. Or am I misunderstanding your situation?
80k is a lot to rent a car. How long are you renting it for? I'd just use Remitly and GCash them the balance. Anything else is impractical.
