I've been traveling for a little over a year. Next year I'm moving to the Philippines for at least six months. Where would you recommend? Safety, beaches, decent wifi and some emergency medical care are all that really matter to me.
People in the provinces will say BGC is an overpriced bubble that's too much like the U.S. and has no soul. People in BGC will say the provinces are unlivable because of brownouts, bad internet, a lack of decent Western food and poor English. People in Makati say Davao is too conservative and tame. People in Davao say Makati is too wild and full of escorts and unhealthy nightlife. The point is, there's no perfect place. Just come and find out what works for you. Everyone has their own opinion, and arguing about the 'best place to live' is like debating chocolate vs. vanilla ice cream.
Dumaguete is what you're looking for. Or go further south, take a 4-hour ferry and end up in Dipolog/Dapitan. Small, super chill twin cities.
If you want to live in the Philippines without experiencing the Philippines, move to BGC. Sounds weird, but you'll understand once you set foot there.
Iloilo is really nice. Modern and clean, with good hospitals. The traffic isn't that bad. Still affordable.
I can't handle heat, so weather-wise Baguio is best for me, though it's not near any beaches. If nice beaches are your priority, I'd say Davao or Cebu.
If you're anywhere near Luzon's west coast, you're living in the shadow of the Manila Trench. When that goes, I don't know how much will be left of anything near Manila. The Ring of Fire runs through most of the Philippines, so safety isn't exactly guaranteed anywhere, but the Manila Trench is a disaster waiting to happen.
Tondo. It's near the beach and cheap. Lots of good food 5G wifi too, and close to hospitals.
